Random thoughts:
First, the no-surprise, I called it first here last night, Mark Cuban would be safe. Glad that America rewarded the hard worker.

Injustice #1:
Helio had little to none hip action. The choreography covered that up really well so it didn’t show. He got 27 the highest of the night which was very undeserving in my opinion.
Injustice #2:
Mark Cuban was decent in his Mambo. I thought of the three men dancing Mambo his upper body action was at least the second best. And his footwork was pretty good too. Continue reading

No surprises. Josie went home, as I expected. Like she said in her clip, “being a model you only need to look good, you don’t have to train the strength”, and Alec summed up “(she is) deceptively unfit”, I don’t think many people were shocked that she’s gone.
What was a little surprising was Mark Cuban was the bottom man, not Floyd. Considering their physical talent and body attributes, I would think Floyd should’ve danced a lot better than Cuban, but in fact he did worse. Fan base is always a big factor in the first week. Continue reading

Three things I liked the most about Monday’s opening night show:
1. Co-host is no longer Samantha Harris (I don’t dislike her but she’s just not been a very good co-host). Instead it’s Drew Lachey which I think played off Tom very well. The Len’s assessment joke came very natural and cracked me up. He also related better with the celebrity dancers, being a former contestant himself, as a result asked more sensible questions. If you already know what the acronym SYTYCD stands for, the chance is pretty good that you know what DWTS stands for (even if you don’t, it’s not too late to start learning). If you, like lots of other people, have no clue either of these two is, like I just said, it’s not too late to start learning… =)
DWTS is Dancing With The Stars, which has been ABC’s most watched TV show for 4 years in a row now. Its 5th season starts 2 weeks from now, Sept 24th.

Was channel surfing Saturday night and one of them was showing Hitch. I’ve watched the movie twice before and really liked it. One of the better movies in its genre. It’s also one of those movies that once you started, it kind of grabs you and makes you not want to leave until it ends.
The beginning of the movie was a bang, very intriguing. The dance-teaching scene was hilarious. Both Kevin James and Will Smith gave stellar performance. There were lots of memorable scenes and some moments were even touching (which is very hard to accomplish in a comedy). Yes it has its “Hollywood bits” but I think overall it’s a really well written, entertaining movie and very, very well acted.
A dialogue from the movie to end this post:
Sara: … relationships are for people that are just waiting for something to come along.
Max (Sara’s boss): Ah, spoken like a true cynic.
Sara: I’m not a cynic, I’m a realist!
Max: Or a realist masquerading as a cynic who is secretly an optimist.
So You Think You Can Dance season 3 is over. My favorite, Danny, didn’t win.
I’d thought I would be pretty upset if he wasn’t the winner, but I’m not. I had such a great time watching Thursday night’s finale show, celebrating what a fantastic season this has been, that I almost didn’t care who the winner would be (the keyword is “almost”;). They really did an excellent job with the finale, putting together lots of interesting pieces, footages and performances and showed them in a nice pace that you didn’t feel it was dragging and were able to sit through the commercials quite patiently.
All my favorite routines were re-danced. Even the guest performances were quite good. The montage shown when the singer was singing “I will remember You” was so moving and real.
This is my favorite show of all. I like it more than Dancing with the Stars, although I thoroughly enjoy both. The choreography, music and dance quality are obviously better in SYTYCD, but what makes it really special is the camaraderie among those brilliant young people and the coach-pupil relationship between them and the judges. In this show the judges appear to really care about the contestants’ progress as a dancer. They give very honest opinions and are very sincere. There is a very pure, almost innocent, quality to the show which is so rare in today’s reality shows. Those talented young dancers get the chance of their lifetime to work with / be critiqued by these highly acclaimed professional choreographers/judges. Everyone is so genuinely involved and speak from their heart. Very little TV manipulation and nothing is fake. This to me, is the biggest factor why SYTYCD was so successful. The spectacular, world class choreography and superb performances are just icing on the cake. They show off the beauty of life like no other art form does, i.e., through the beauty of human body itself.
People like to say, “it’s just a tv show”. Those people don’t watch. To me, this is not a “show”, this is the actual “thing”. It’s life, in front of your eyes, and it can’t be more real.
